lroy and the Aliens: A Fun, Heartfelt Cosmic Adventure

Elroy and the Aliens is a point-and-click adventure that feels like a nod to classic LucasArts games. You play as Elroy Deluna, a nerdy rocket engineer, and Peggie Wolfe, a sharp reporter, on a quest to find Elroy’s missing dad in a quirky 1993 world packed with alien tech, talking robots, and time-travel shenanigans. What starts as a rocket demo spirals into a galaxy-hopping mystery with tons of charm.

The game’s hand-drawn art is a standout vibrant, cartoonish, and full of personality, like Day of the Tentacle with a modern twist. From dusty desert towns to alien ruins, every scene pops. The voice acting, led by Jay Rincon and Dev Joshi, is top-notch, bringing Elroy, Peggie, and oddballs like a sarcastic robot to life. The puzzles are clever, mixing logic and humor think splicing audio to trick a mayor or staging a sci-fi Romeo and Juliet. The story, though simple, hits emotional notes about family and loss, with multiple endings adding replay value. At 8-10 hours, it’s just right, and accessibility options like subtitles make it welcoming.

That said, it’s not perfect. The difficulty spikes late, especially with a tricky laser puzzle that lacks checkpoints. The alien language section drags, feeling repetitive, and the alien stuff takes too long to kick in most of the game stays Earth-bound. Some item interactions are finicky; I missed a tiny hose because it blended into the background. A few adult-themed jokes, like a “seduction bag,” feel out of place in the wholesome vibe.

Overall, Elroy and the Aliens is a blast for fans of classic adventures or anyone craving a cozy, funny sci-fi tale. It nails the genre’s heart with lovable characters, smart puzzles, and a touching story. It’s not flawless, but it’s a ride worth taking.
